Our History
Downtown St. Louis, Missouri, has a rich history dating back to the late 18th century when it was founded by French fur traders. The city grew rapidly in the 19th century, becoming a major transportation hub and economic center for the Midwest region. In the mid-20th century, the city underwent significant changes, with many historic buildings demolished and replaced by modern skyscrapers. Despite this, many of the city's architectural treasures remain, such as the Gateway Arch, a symbol of St. Louis' role as the "Gateway to the West," and the Old Courthouse, where the Dred Scott case was heard. Today, downtown St. Louis is a bustling business district with a variety of attractions, including sports stadiums, museums, theaters, and restaurants. The city continues to evolve, with ongoing efforts to revitalize historic neighborhoods and attract new businesses and residents to the area.
